Chincoteague and Assateague Attractions

Dove winds is only a short distance from the entrance to Assateague Island, home of the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and the Assateague Island National Seashore.

The National Seashore includes thirty-seven miles of beautiful beaches for you to explore and enjoy. During the summer, lifeguards oversee a section of the beach near the bathhouses and visitor center. Changing stalls, toilet facilities, rinse-off showers, and drinking water are available at the bathhouse. Outside the lifeguard protected area, you can enjoy surf fishing and even surfing (boards of all sizes are available for rent on Chincoteague).
